Honourable Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir was appointed as Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation following the Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in December 2023. Prior to that he was Deputy Minister of Local Government Development since December 2022. He performs the function of the ministry formulating policy with respect to energy transition, water management and sewerage system.

Prior to entering politics, he worked as a research officer at the Selangor Economic Advisor Office and served under the direction of YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was then the Selangor Economic Advisor. After that, Honourable Akmal Nasrullah joined INVOKE, a start-up company that specializes in digital and analytics marketing, as Chief Research Officer. In addition, Honourable Akmal Nasrullah and Honourable Rafizi Ramli co-founded and held directorships at the National Oversight and Whistleblowers Centre (NOW) which is a non-profit organization dedicated to instituting public-driven oversight initiative and the role of whistleblowers in society.

Born on September 16, 1986, Honourable Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir attended Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), an elite boarding school, before continuing his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, where he earned a dual degree in actuarial science and economics.
