ZHANG YUE, Chairman and President of BROAD Group, was born in Changsha in 1960. He graduated with a college degree in fine arts in 1980, after which he worked as a teacher and a librarian. In 1988, Zhang Yue and his younger brother founded BROAD with RMB 30,000 yuan. Ever since its inception, Zhang Yue has spent 90% of his time on technology, leading the research & development of all of the group’s products. He has obtained well over 466 patents for his inventions, including a pressure-free hot water boiler in 1989, non-electric air conditioning in 1992, a cooling, heating and power (CHP) system in 1999, electrostatic air purification technology in 2005, clean fresh air technology in 2007, factory-made steel structure buildings in 2009, and the stainless steel B-CORE slab in 2017. Each of his inventions has revolutionized the industry, making BROAD a globally recognized leader in technology. Facing the imminent crisis of global climate change and rising air pollution, Zhang Yue dreams of completely replacing the reinforced concrete in buildings, roads and bridges, the shells of vehicles and aircraft, and the fiber glass wind turbine blades with the ultra-strong and ultra-light “stainless-steel B-CORE slab” that he invented. This will reduce more than 30% of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions internationally, and it will make human wealth a generational legacy. Zhang Yue was recognized as a “Champion of the Earth” by the United Nations in 2011. In addition, he was given the “Innovation Award” by CTBUH (the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat) in 2013, recognized as one of the “World’s Top 25 Eco-Innovators” by Fortune in 2014, and commended as one of the “World’s Top 100 Compassionate Business Leaders” by Salt Magazine in 2015.
