Sami Lundgren is heading the Responsibility at UPM and acting as a Chairman of the Board at UN Global Compact Finland.
Sami started at UPM’s Voikkaa paper mill in 1987. While working at Voikkaa paper mill, he studied and graduated from the University of Helsinki with an M.Sc. in Biology. After graduation in 2001, he moved to
Helsinki and joined the Responsibility team at the UPM Head Office as Environmental analyst. He was promoted to Senior environmental analyst in 2006 and has held several directorial positions since 2009. In 2016, Sami was nominated as Vice President, Responsibility, to lead UPM’s global sustainability activities. The last 20+ years Sami has combined his practical industry knowledge and studies in various tasks in UPM’s
Responsibility team, including short assignments in Canada and China.
While transferring himself from shop floor to sustainability professional, Sami has seen and contributed to UPM’s transformation from a traditional paper company to a Biofore company that is nowadays recognized as industry leader also in sustainability. Additionally, he has also contributed to related activities of various associations and networks such as Finnish Forest Industry Federation, Confederation of European Paper
Industries and UN Global Compact Finland.
