Thierry Rajaona began his career in France at Caisse Centrale des Banques Populaires in Paris (Natexis Banques Populaires) and then Andersen Consulting (Accenture). On his return to Madagascar, he worked for the Bolloré Technologies Group, then for the Malagasy government as Technical Secretary for Privatisation, before taking up the post of Managing Director of the mutual microfinance network CECAM.

In 1994, he founded FTHM Consulting, a management and organisational consultancy that currently employs around 100 permanent consultants and operates in over 30 countries across Africa.

In 2010, he acquired a stake in the microfinance company SIPEM, which obtained a banking licence in 2014 as SIPEM Banque. He currently serves as Chairman of its Board of Directors and Strategy Committee.

Mr Rajaona has been Chairman of the business confederation Groupement des Entreprises de Madagascar (GEM) since 2020, and in 2021 was appointed Executive Vice-President of the Alliance des Patronats Francophones, a network of employers' organisations in some 30 French-speaking countries.

He has taught finance on the HEC Executive Education programme in Antananarivo (Madagascar) and microfinance at the Boulder Institute of Microfinance in Turin (Italy).

Mr Rajaona is a graduate of HEC Paris Business School and holds a Master's degree in International Law from Paris-Panthéon-Assas University as well as a postgraduate diploma (DESS) in the management of financial and banking organisations from Paris Dauphine University.

He was born on 27 August 1961 and is married with three children.
