SDG Action Weekend side-event: Multi-stakeholder platforms enhance the sustainability transformation for Agenda2030: Cases from local to global

Active multi-stakeholder platforms and networks for sustainable development work in different contexts, with various histories and futures. Some have existed for long, like Finland´s Commission for Sustainable Development with a 30-year history, while others are in their early years or just being developed, like the Global Forum. This side-event focuses on sharing experiences and lessons learned as well as discussing future steps to enhance the sustainability transformation in societies. The questions are set two-directionally: first, how the sustainability work of the platforms’ members benefits from being part of such networks; and second, how the sustainability transformation can be speeded up through multi-stakeholder collaboration in a just manner. The panelists include members of global, European and national multi-stakeholder platforms, business platforms and civil society.

The path towards 2030: Where are the Nordics?

Join us in person on September 18th for "The path towards 2030: Where are the Nordics?" as we explore what lies ahead of us.

We have reached the midpoint of our journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Governments, civil society, and businesses are convening in New York during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly for various notable events, such as the Secretary-Generals SDG Summit. For this occasion, the Nordic UN Global Compact Networks of Denmark, Finland, Norway Sweden have worked with Accenture to produce the report «The path towards 2030: where are the Nordics» to take stock of the Nordic sustainability and business progress and compare it to the rest of Europe and the world. The report identifies and examines the status, challenges, needs, and opportunities for Nordic companies as we move toward 2030, with a special focus on Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The report incorporates a combination of existing and new data sources that have not previously been aggregated, providing new and actionable insights for both the private and public sectors in the Nordic region. It highlights Nordic business practices that foster sustainability and identifies areas that require improvement and areas where government action is desired and necessary. Importantly, the report shows where the Nordic lead the way for the rest of Europe and the world, and where we are lagging. Join the official report launch on the 18th of September in New York or through our livestream, to find out where the Nordic businesses are on the path towards 2030, and what guidance they are requesting from the policymakers to climb the last leg.

After COP15: Implications and opportunities for business and policy in the Nordics

In 2022, the historic Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was signed by 196 countries, committing to 23 targets for ecosystem restoration across four main goals. Nature and biodiversity, reflected in SDG 14 and 15, are crucial for our planet's well-being and the green transition, essential for both global survival and corporate sustainability.

An upcoming report assesses Nordic private sector sustainability, comparing it to other regions globally and in Europe. While the report's main findings are unrevealed, indications suggest room for improvement in nature and biodiversity measures. The report emphasizes policy changes, supply chain involvement, and cross-sector partnerships to fulfill COP15's Kunming-Montreal commitments. Urgent action from public and private sectors is stressed to reverse nature loss by 2030.

The Nordic Talk will delve into the report's findings, hosting discussions among business leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore solutions, policies, and business prospects.
