Marco Romiti was born in Rome in 1966 and earned a degree in Political Science at the
Rome University “La Sapienza”. He entered the diplomatic service in 1995 and was appointed Secretary of Legation at the IV Office of the Directorate General of Emigration and Social Affairs.
On 14 December 1998, he was appointed Second Secretary for Commercial Affairs in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where he became First Commercial Secretary and served as Deputy Ambassador.
On 30 August 2001, he was appointed First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in Rome (FAO/ IFAD/WFP). On 20 July 2005, he was Counsellor of Legation at the Directorate General for Human Resources. On 27 October 2008, he was appointed Consul General of Italy in Amsterdam and was later appointed First Counsellor in Rabat in 2012. On 11 May 2015, he began service at the Directorate General for the European Union. On 2 October 2017, he was posted to Cameroon as Italian Ambassador – also accredited to Chad, Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea.
Since 14 October 2021, he has been serving at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in New York, first covering Second Committee and ECOSOC issues and then, as Minister Counsellor, coordinating Italy’s ECOSOC membership and participation at the negotiations for the Summit of the Future.
